Through the generosity of the Caribbean Cable and Telecommunications Association (CCTA), The Just Because Foundation (JB) is the recipient of US$1,000 grant from the association’s 2009 Community Charities Program. “We are pleased that once again, the charity we have nominated is a recipient of this grant.” stated Shelly Ann Hee Chung, Flow’s Marketing and Communications Manager. “Every year we choose carefully when nominating a charity and we felt that through the Just Because Foundation’s arduous efforts that children affected with cancer and their families will have the much needed support, research and medical advancements that will help alleviate these diseases.” The Just Because Foundation was nominated for the grant by Columbus Communications Trinidad Limited (Flow), who is also a member of the CCTA. They were chosen as a grant recipient because of the outstanding service and assistance they provide to the community. The cheque for US$1,000 was presented by Flow’s Corporate Communications Specialist, Ms. Kisha Wilson to Mrs. Chevaughn Joseph, founder of Just Because. Mrs. Joseph was pleased and indicated that the receipt of the grant was timely as the Foundation is currently hosting five families. “We know that even though we cannot change the outcome for some of these children and their families, we can provide the support that will assist in making the journey easier.” The CCTA’s Community Charities Program, established in 1993, has awarded US$208,250 to Caribbean charities during its existence. The program originally awarded only ten grants per year. However, interest in the program has grown substantially in recent years. All 19 of the 2009 nominees were worthy organisations, so the association’s board of directors voted unanimously to award grants to all. Formed in 1983, the Caribbean Cable and Telecommunications Association represents cable and telecommunications providers throughout the Caribbean, and the programmers, software and hardware suppliers that support their operations.
