Port-of-Spain, June 21st, 2010: Through the generosity of the Caribbean Cable and Telecommunications Association (CCTA), Just Because Foundation is the recipient of a US$750 grant from the association’s 2010 Community Charities Program. The Just Because Foundation was nominated for the grant by Flow, a member of the CCTA and the cable and telecommunications provider for Trinidad and Tobago.
The Just Because Foundation was chosen as a grant recipient because of their continuing, outstanding service and assistance which it provides to the community. The cheque for $750 was presented by Kristle Lewis, Corporate Communications Coordinator of Flow – Columbus Communications Trinidad Limited, on June 18, 2010.
The CCTA’s Community Charities Program, established in 1993, has awarded $238,500 to Caribbean charities during its existence. The program originally awarded only ten grants per year, but interest in the program has grown substantially over the years. All 14 of the 2010 nominees were worthy organizations, so the association’s board of directors voted unanimously to award US$750 grants to all. In addition, the association raised and distributed $20,000 to two organizations involved in Haitian relief operations following the devastating earthquake in January of this year. The recipients of these extraordinary contributions were Food for the Poor and College Canado-Haitian.
The 14 Community Charities Program grant recipients were nominated by the following cable and telecommunications operators: Bermuda CableVision; BVI Cable TV; Caribbean Cable Communications Holdings of Anguilla; Choice Cable TV of Puerto Rico; Columbus Communications Inc. of the Bahamas; Columbus Communications Grenada; Columbus Communications Trinidad; Innovative Cable TV St. Croix; Innovative Cable TV St. Thomas-St. John; Liberty Cablevision of Puerto Rico; SETAR of Aruba; The Cable of St. Kitts; T.V. Distribution Systems of Curacao; and WestStar TV Limited of the Cayman Islands.
Formed in 1983, the Caribbean Cable and Telecommunications Association represents cable and telecommunications providers throughout the Caribbean, and the programmers, software and hardware suppliers that support their operations.
