Through the generosity of the Caribbean Cable and Telecommunications Association (CCTA), local charity ‘Kids In Need of Direction’ (KIND) was the recipient of a US$1,000 Grant from the association’s 2007 Community Charities Program.

KIND was nominated for the Grant by Columbus Communications Trinidad Limited (Flow), a member of the CCTA, and was chosen as a grant recipient because of the outstanding service and assistance it provides to the local community.

KIND’S Administrator, Mrs. Kirtia Arthur, expressed her appreciation for having been nominated by Flow to receive this Grant from the CCTA. “We are honoured to receive this grant. It encourages us to persevere in our work when private organisations like Flow & CCTA take the time to recognise those who are less fortunate in our beloved country, especially the children”, Mrs. Arthur explained.

She advised that the grant will be used to fund KIND’s ‘Sponsor a Child to Learn’ programme.

Formed in 1983, the Caribbean Cable and Telecommunications Association represents cable and telecommunications providers throughout the Caribbean, and the programmers, software and hardware suppliers that support them.

The CCTA’s Community Charities Program was established in 1993 and has awarded over US$170,000 to Caribbean charities during its existence. The program originally awarded ten grants per year. However, in 2007, all 17 nominees throughout the region were awarded grants as the Board of Directors believed that all nominees were worthy organisations.

The 17 grant recipients were nominated by the following cable and telecommunications operators: Bermuda Cablevision; BVI Cable TV; Cable Bahamas; Choice Cable TV; Columbus Communications Trinidad; Grenada Cablevision; Innovative Cable TV St. Croix; Innovative Cable TV St. Thomas-St. John; Liberty Cablevision of Puerto Rico; OneLink Communications of Puerto Rico; St. Lucia Cablevision; St. Maarten Cable TV; SAT Telecommunications of Dominica; Telecable of the Dominican Republic; The Cable of St. Kitts; TV Distribution Systems N.V. of Curacao; and Wireless Telecommunication Network of St. Maarten.
