August, 2008: Two-time Sportsman of the Year, Stephen Ames, is scheduled to be in Trinidad & Tobago from Monday 11th – Sunday 17th August as patron of the Stephen Ames Cup to be held at the St. Andrews Golf Club in Moka, Maraval. This is the 4th edition of the tournament played between the best under twenty one (21) golfers from Canada and Trinidad & Tobago and provides an ideal avenue for young aspiring golfers of both countries to show their mettle in keen competition using the Walker Cup format. As part of the week of activities surrounding the tournament, Stephen will host a four (4) hole playing clinic to be followed by a session on the range at the Millennium Lakes Golf & Country Club. This will be held on Wednesday 13th August and will be funded by Flow & Beacon Insurance Company Ltd.
Flow’s Chief Operating Officer, John Reid expressed his Company’s feeling of honour at being asked to co-host the event by the Trinidad & Tobago Golf Association. Flow was a Gold Sponsor of the recently concluded Caribbean Amateur Junior Golf Championship held in Trinidad & Tobago and is also the sponsor of the free five-week public clinics at Millennium Lakes.
Beacon’s Marketing Manager, Nisa Dass, is very excited about their involvement in the event and has indicated that this is a continuance of her Company’s support of golf throughout the region. Beacon is the proud sponsor of the Barbados Open Amateur Golf Championship over the last few years.
The event is open to the public and attendees would be invited to walk the course and make use of the bleachers erected to accommodate spectators on the range. The schedule is as follows:
- 3:30 pm - Stephen Ames conducts a four (4) hole playing clinic with sponsors’ representatives, juniors and members
- 5:00 pm - Photo session (Stephen Ames and sponsors representatives)
- 5:30 pm Stephen Ames conducts clinic on the driving range with:
